About the event

10th Annual Ceilidh Brazilian Piper Pipe Band

The Brazilian Piper Pipe Band is a social project created in 1999 by retired Pipe Major J. Paulo Pereira of the Brazilian Marines orchestra to provide underprivileged youths from Sao Goncalo the opportunity through music and the discipline of a pipe band to become responsible citizens. Since 2015 the band has been attending pipe band gatherings in Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay. In 2025, after two years of very hard work, Pipe Major J.Paulo  achieved his ambition to take the band to Scotland. On the centre stage of the Edinburgh International Festival in Princes Street Gardens under the shadow of Edinburgh Castle, the boys from Sao Goncalo delighted international audiences over ten days in the “Daily Ceilidh Show” to commemorate 200 years of UK/Brazil relations. The project was supported by the BCS, British Consulate, British Chamber of Commerce, Brazilian Consulate in Edinburgh and Edinburgh City Council. Right now the International Rotary Club is making arrangements to provide the band with the newly created “Spirit of Brazil” kilt tartan. Read the band’s full story at www.brazilianpiper.com.br.  Enjoy the ceilidh, thank you for your support- and we’ll see you again next year!
